RENSHI – RYUSHIN SHOUCHI RYU

Fred Shimzu is one of our senior iaido instructors and joined NYBA in 2010. He holds the official rank of Renshi in Ryushin Schouchi Ryu. He holds a great passion for traditional budo arts including the appreciation of antique swords.

He is also an authority on Japanese film and contribuited essays in Directory of World Cinema: Japan, Directory of World Cinema: Japan Vol. 2. Professionally he is an award winning cameraman, having won several Emmy’s for his work behind the camera: Winter Olympics, and the Late Show with David Letterman.
