NYBA INSTRUCTORS

NYBA is a not-for-profit 501c-(3) organization, none of the instructors are paid to teach, but rather are just a group of dedicated individuals who enjoy teaching and believe in our mission to preserve traditional Japanese budo practices.

NYBA teaches several styles of Iaido/Kenjutsu (Japanese sword) including Muso Shinden Ryu (MSR) and Ryushin Shouchi Ryu (RSR – which is the main branch of RSR in the North East). All Iaido senior instructors hold the rank of Renshi (15 – 45 years of experience) and our Senpai are Sandan 3rd DAN ( 6 – 8 years of experience).

Kyudo classes are taught by Phil Ortiz Sensei and assisted by senior students – we study the Heki Ryu Bishu Chikurin-Ha school of Kyudo (students are also welcome to practice Renmei as well).

Naginata classes are taught by Edward Kim Sensei who holds the rank of Nidan with the USNF and are also members of the GNYNF.

All instructors also have signed and agreed to the NYBA CODE OF ETHICS.
