Nobuhide Seki Sensei was born in 1972 to Hiroshi Seki and Tetsu Yoneyama, both students of Shodokan under Morihiro Okada Sensei. Immersed in traditional Japanese martial arts from an early age, he began practicing kendo at the age of three and iaido at nine. His upbringing was steeped in budō culture; his mother is also a practitioner of jōdō and shigin.

At twenty-three, Seki Sensei expanded his training to include jōdō and classical (koryū) martial traditions. He studied Shintō Musō-ryū jōjutsu and related arts under Mitsuo Shiiya Sensei and Yukihiro Sakai Sensei, Musō Shinden-ryū iai (Hayashizaki Shigenobu-ryū tsumeai and related teachings) under Keiji Tsumura Sensei, and Asayama Ichiden-ryū tactics and Muhiryū iaijutsu under Kiyoshi Osaki Sensei.

Seki Sensei currently serves as the second director of the Hiromichi Hyakurenkan, a position he has held with dedication and continuity, carrying forward its traditions to the present day.

Senior members of NYBA have been training weekly in Asayama Ichiden Ryu with Seki Sensei online since 2024, and had the pleasure to finally meet sensei in-person during the 2025 summer training camp. We hope to one day host sensei in NYC with the intention of helping the AIR community expand into the United States.
