Toronto Aikikai is pleased to announce a Iaido and Iaijutsu seminar featuring Malcolm “Tiki” Shewan who is the co-technical director of the European Federation of Iai. Tiki Sensei was the most senior of Tamura Sensei’s direct students and has been a professional instructor of Iaido and Aikido in Europe since the early 1970’s with Menkyo Kaiden in multiple styles of Traditional Japanese Swordsmanship.
Tiki Sensei has also published a comprehensive book on Iaido “Japanese Swordsmanship“ (2nd edition) which will be available for purchase by end of the year on Amazon.

8 – 10 PM
Lecture on history of Sword making with Malcolm ‘Tiki’ Shewan Sensei.
His knowledge about forging and polishing of the Japanese Sword was taught to him by WAKITA RYOSUI SHISSHO during a long visit to EUROPE and during his stay in Japan in 1981-1982, where he studied as an apprentice swordsmith there, that Mr. Shewan devoted his whole time to learning how to build small furnaces in which they made sword steel of the earliest times and refining the steel produced into sword-quality material. Parallel studies at this time included – Sword Polishing, the Techniques of Tsuba (sword guards) making, the fashioning of scabbards and other arts such as : the making of wooden weapons (bokken, etc.), ceramics and carpentry.
